In 2001, the VA established the Hospice and Palliative Care Initiative, thereby creating a national network of hospice and end-of-life advocates for veterans.

Hospice Care For Veterans
Many veterans don’t realize that hospice care is part of their VA benefits package. If you are enrolled in VA benefits and meet the medical requirements for hospice, you are eligible for hospice palliative care. We believe that hospice care for veterans is an integral part of our role as hospice care providers.
As a veteran, your hospice-related expenses are covered 100% through Medicaid, Tricare, Medicare, or the VA. In your initial assessment, we’ll explain how payment, benefits, and coverage work.

- Zero-copay hospice and palliative care
- Symptom and pain management according to your goals
- Care provided where you are: VA medical facility, nursing home, or your own home
- Personal care supplies, medication, and durable medical equipment

- Coordinating care with your primary care physician and treatment team
- Spiritual and emotional care for you and your family
- When available, volunteers with military service to provide emotional comfort and support
- Ongoing grief counseling for you and your family

Headwaters Hospice And The We Honor Veterans Program
Headwaters Hospice and Palliative Care, LLC, partners with We Honor Veterans to provide more comprehensive care for veterans. The We Honor Veterans program provides additional training and resources to align with each veteran’s unique emotional, physical, spiritual, and social needs.
We can streamline the hospice admissions process, including identifying VA benefits available to you and helping you access them. We also provide coordination with VA medical centers and specialized emotional support.
